History Of St. Catherine of Siena School
St. Catherine of Siena School was established as a parish school in 1959. The Sisters of Mercy administered the school from 1959 to 1971, at which time Sr. Janet Belcourt CSC was named principal and directed the school for over 40 years in collaboration with Msgr. Thomas Hannigan, pastor. Mrs. Jocelyn Bergeron and Rev. Paul Montminy served respectively as principal and pastor until 2018, when Mrs. Katie Knight and Very Rev. Christopher Martel were assigned to St. Catherine's.
The school's designation as a parish school allows for a close relationship between school and parish, and the pastor and principal work together to ensure students regularly access the sacraments and benefit from a robust liturgical and communal prayer life. In 1995, a gymnasium and cafeteria addition were built, providing space for the growing school and parish community. A three story addition was constructed in 2021, affording space for a science lab, library and adoration chapel.
The continued commitment to the mission of the school has been a catalyst for growth, and today the school serves over 350 students in Pre-K3 through Gr. 6. St. Catherine of Siena School is accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and is a member of National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA).
